Turning 40 was definitely a milestone birthday for me and it was fitting that I cross another dream trip off of my bucket list that year.
For years I had been looking at a trip to Greece with Adventures by Disney and turning forty was significant enough to take this trip.
I love Greek food and the food we ate on this trip was amazing. It was made from fresh simple ingredients and everything we ate was really delicious but for some reason I didn’t take a lot of food pictures this trip. As I looked at my pictures from Greece I noticed a lot of snapshots of windows and doorways.
There were doorways on the mainland in Delphi
which led to tunnels used by the Oracle who would magically appear and give consult about important decisions in ancient times.
Pictures of windows at the archaeological site of Akrotiki on the Island of Santorini, well preserved after being covered in volcanic ash since 17th century BC.

And windows and doorways of the abandoned island of Spinalonga just off of Crete. The last leper colony in Europe which was inhabited until 1957.

You could almost feel the presence of the thousands of people, some really ancient people, who had walked through these doors and gazed out the windows. For me these pictures remind me that life doesn’t end at 40 yrs old. There is opportunity and adventure behind each door. I have kept these doors open and have been to some amazing places, have eaten some delicious meals and have had some incredible adventures in the last 3 yrs since that birthday. Stories of adventure and food memories that I plan to share with you on Taste Buds and Travel Bugs.

Greece is one of few larger European countries that I have not yet visited. Sounds like a country that I should consider to visit. Thank you for the inspiration 🙂

I would recommend visiting Athens, and then getting the ferries from the port at Piraeus to the neighbouring islands 🙂
